Neptune Fields was a short-lived but fiercely atmospheric alternative project rooted in the suburban sprawl of northern New Jersey — Lodi, Hasbrouck Heights, Fair Lawn. Equal parts post-goth intensity and shoegaze drift, the band channeled late-80s reverb worship into something distinctly their own: dense, swirling guitars layered over driving rhythms with vocals buried just deep enough to feel like transmissions from another room.

The self-titled album was recorded in approximately 1988 across a series of basement sessions — six tracks that move from the brooding pulse of greenmanse through the sprawling close of sunflower. Production was raw and intentional, capturing the band as they sounded in the room rather than polishing away the edges.Role

Recorded in my parents’ basement on a Fostex 1/4″ reel 8 tracks, the band’s guitarist Anthony was the little brother of my bassist’s girlfriend, and the entire 4 piece band – vocals, guitar, bass, drums – were on average 15 years at the time. They were immensely talented, we found a great sound for them and would’ve loved to do more with them.
